In addition to being warm and mild, the climate of Jeollanam-do is also continental with a large temperature difference between the highs of summer and the lows of winter. It is also a seasonal climate with heavy rains during summer and dry breezes during winter.

In principle, Jeollanam-do experiences all the climate changes that are characteristic of the entire Korean peninsula, but because of its geographical location in the southwestern region consisting of wide plains and a long coastline Jeollanam-do also experiences the characteristics of an oceanic climate.

However, the mountainous areas of the Sobaek and Noryeong mountain ranges as well as the inland basin with its rivers that originate from those mountains experience a continental climate different from those of the coastal areas and islands.

The annual average temperature is usually 13℃ ~ 14℃ in the southern and western coastal regions. Annual precipitation is generally 1,290mm. In winter, due to topographical factors, it snows heavily along the slopes to the west of the Sobaek mountains.

The warm Jeju current flows into the southwest coast. However, the current is weak. The cold coastal current moving southward from Balhae flows all the way to Dadohae at the southern end to bring thick fog or heavy rain to the southwestern coastal regions.
